ADOPTION CONTRACT

Upon adoption of the animal described below I,______________________________________________,

agree to follow all the stipulations listed in this LEGAL AND BINDING contract.  I understand that failure to do so could result in the animal being reclaimed by the Berkeley County Humane Society. 

  1. I will have the animal examined by a veterinarian within seven (7) days and have all proper shots administered at that time and when required in the future.
  2. I will have the animal spayed/neutered within the time described on the spay/neuter certificate or at such time as recommended by a veterinarian. 
  3. I will notify Berkeley County Humane Society if the animal becomes sick within 14 days of adoption.
  4. I will notify Berkeley County Humane Society immediately if the animal is lost, stolen or dies.
  5. I will return the animal to Berkeley County Humane Society if I cannot keep it and cannot give it to a suitable new owner.  I understand that I will not receive any refund of adoption fee or spay/neuter money.  If a new owner is found, I will notify the Berkeley County Humane Society of the new owner’s name and address. 
  6. I will not SELL the animal.
  7. I will not allow the animal to be used for any experimentation or vivisection.
  8. I will ensure that the animal is properly fed, watered, exercised and housed.
  9. I agree to hold Berkeley County Humane Society free and harmless from any liability resulting from this animal and its adoption.  I will assume full liability for any action of this animal.
  10. If Berkeley County Animal Control Officers ever receive a complaint of abuse or neglect regarding this animal, they can remove the animal from premises and return it to the Berkeley County Humane Society.
  11. Spay/neuter fee paid to the Berkeley County Humane Society in conjunction with this adoption are refundable ONLY if the animal dies before the certificate expiration date.  I understand that veterinary certification of such death is required for refund to be made.  Donations are not refundable.
  12. Spay/neuter certificate must be returned for refund of spay/neuter fee.

  • Our adoption fees...

     

  • The adoption fee is $10.00 plus a spay/neuter fee.
     

  • Our spay/neuter certificate fee for cats is $25.00 for females and $25.00 for males.
     

  • Our spay/neuter certificate fee for dogs is $25.00 for either males or females.

  • Delivering the animal to a local veterinarian for spay/neutering before the animal is adopted in a $10.00 fee.

    • If you would like to adopt an animal from our shelter, the following adoption rules are followed.

  • You must have a home phone number.
     

  • You must provide an address other than "General Delivery".
     

  • If you rent, we will perform a landlord check before the adoption.
     

  • No adoptions to grown children living at home without parental consent.
     

  • You must be 18 years of age or older to adopt an animal.
     

  • Pure bred animals are spayed or neutered by a local veterinarian before they are available to be taken home. If the pure bred animal is too young for the procedure, we will require a reference from the adoptee's veterinarian (again we must speak with the veterinarian).
     

  • We reserve the right to refuse any adoption.
